Fall under the spell of Montchevreuil

Montchevreuil is a new French commune located in the Oise department, in the Hauts-de-France region. It resulted from the merger—on January 1, 2019—of the communes of Bachivillers, Fresneaux-Montchevreuil, and the two hamlets of Lormeteau and Tirmont. A rural village, located 20 km south of Beauvais, Montchevreuil is crossed by the Ru du Mesnil stream.

Hauts-de-France Region

Hauts-de-France, also referred to in English as Upper France, is the northernmost region of France, created by the territorial reform of French regions in 2014, from a merger of Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy. Its prefecture is Lille. The new region came into existence on 1 January 2016, after regional elections in December 2015. The Conseil d'État approved Hauts-de-France as the name of the region on 28 September 2016, effective the following 30 September.

With 6,009,976 inhabitants as of 1 January 2015 and a population density of 189 inhabitants per km2, it is the third most populous region in France and the second-most densely populated in metropolitan France after its southern neighbour Île-de-France. It is bordered by Belgium to the north and by the United Kingdom to the northwest through the Channel Tunnel, a railway tunnel crossing the English Channel. The region is a blend mixture of French and (southern-) Dutch cultures.

Toponymy

The region's interim name Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie was a hyphenated placename, created by hyphenating the merged regions' names—Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardie—in alphabetical order.

On 14 March 2016, well ahead of the 1 July deadline, the regional council decided on Hauts-de-France as the region's permanent name. The provisional name of the region was retired on 30 September 2016, when the new name of the region, Hauts-de-France, took effect.

Geography

The region covers an area of more than 31,813 km2 (12,283 sq mi). It borders Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia) to the northeast, the North Sea to the north, the English Channel to the west, as well as the French regions of Grand Est to the east-southeast, Île-de-France to the south, and Normandy to the west-southwest. It is connected to the United Kingdom (England) via the Channel Tunnel.

Map of the new region with its five départements, coloured according to the historical provinces as they existed until 1790.

Departments

Hauts-de-France comprises five departments: Aisne, Nord, Oise, Pas-de-Calais, and Somme.

Major communities

Dunkirk (90,995)

Calais (72,589)

Economy

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the region was 161.7 billion euros in 2018, accounting for 6.9% of French economic output. GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power was 24,200 euros or 80% of the EU27 average in the same year. The GDP per employee was 101% of the EU average.

Transport

Air

There are only 2 operating airports in the region which are Lille Airport and Paris–Beauvais Airport. Residents in the region normally use other major airports such as Brussels Airport and Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport which both can easily be reached by train and car.

Rail

The region is an important transport corridor between France, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Lille-Europe station is served by TGV and continental Eurostar high-speed rail services linking the region with Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. There are further connections to London via the Channel Tunnel.

Sea

The ports of Calais and Dunkirk provide passenger and freight ferry services across the English Channel, while LeShuttle provides a car-train service between Coquelles and Folkestone through the Channel Tunnel.

About us

From the historic Castle...

This building was constructed on the foundations of an older castle dating from the 12th century on the hillside of Montchevreuil, probably by Guillaume de Mornay or his son, Pierre de Mornay, who received the Montchevreuil estate as a gift from Jean Chenu on December 11, 1539. In the 17th century, wings were added to the castle and stables were built. The interior was remodeled in the 19th century by Jules de Mornay, Marquis of Montchevreuil.

Illustrious figures such as Madame de Maintenon, the Mornay family, and Marshal Soult have left their mark there.

Thus, Madame de Maintenon wanted Montchevreuil as one of her three witnesses at her marriage to King Louis XIV. Dangeau reports that Henri de Mornay, Marquis de Montchevreuil, was so esteemed at court that Louis XIV had said of him: If I were not Bourbon, I would want to be Montchevreuil.

The motto of the Mornay family, inscribed on the main fireplace of the castle, aptly describes this family of knights: ARTE ET MARTE (by skill and by combat)

The park, with its diverse sites, covers more than 200 hectares and is surrounded by 7 kilometers of walls, built under Napoleon III. This project was part of the official works undertaken to reduce unemployment at that time.

Speeches, readings, songs, exchanges of gifts or jewelry: bring the emotion and symbolism that reflect your personalities. Several options are available: overlooking the Vexin Valley with its breathtaking views, beneath a centuries-old Lebanese cedar, or in a stone courtyard in case of inclement weather.

An Eco-responsible Estate

Sustainability at the heart of our concerns: We want to take responsibility - that's why we have developed a sustainability policy where we focus on biodiversity and responsible consumption, among other things.

We wanted to partner with an organization that shares our values. Therefore, we support Unisoap's initiatives. This organization collects used soap bars after your visit; these are then recycled by people with disabilities. The goal is to transform this waste into resources for communities in need by providing them with access to hygiene.

In 2020, we decided to install two 40m³ rainwater harvesting tanks, allowing us to take a daily, environmentally responsible action. This water is reused for watering the gardens and vegetable patch on the estate.

We also prioritize offering food made with local and seasonal ingredients. We also have our own vegetable garden, from which we grow our own herbs and vegetables. Food scraps are given to the wild boars on the estate, who happily devour them.

In order to limit our CO2 emissions, staff travel within the Domaine is done using green energy with electric scooters and buggies.

Photo & Film Shoots

When you book the entire estate for a film shoot, you have exclusive use of the premises. Depending on your project, we can make all the rooms and outdoor spaces of the estate available to you.
The interior spaces can accommodate a wide variety of decors and are all customizable. The Domaine's diverse architectural styles, the surrounding natural setting, and the perfect tranquility of the location are sure to captivate you. All our interior spaces are fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology: Wi-Fi, sound system, and projection screen. This allows you to work directly on-site using computers for post-processing or editing, for example.
Depending on the theme of your project, it is possible to adapt the spaces accordingly, in order to obtain exactly the atmosphere and setting that are suitable for your filming or photoshoot at the castle.
